It’s Iimi! So You Say…

Iimi and Kismetta plan to enjoy a free period on the day before Easter break. Unfortunately, Owen intrudes on a private conversation seeking to move Kismetta from joining the Catholic Church to joining the Mormons. The girls must show that his claims are ipse dixit fallacies… if they can get him to listen. Then, Kismetta finds herself wondering if they are guilty themselves. Can Iimi show the difference?

Preliminary Notes

Ipse dixit (Latin for “he himself said”) is a fallacy where a person makes a bare assertion without providing any basis behind it.

Post-Comic Notes:

“Twyfel” means “doubt.” “Nachdenken” means reflection or pondering. Kirche, of course, means “Church.” Consider it heavy-handed subtlety.

Believe it or not, Owen’s arguments are from the Mormons themselves.

As I tried to show in the comic, Owen’s attitude is his own, and not a stereotype of ALL Mormons. Most Mormons that I met are rather polite. But I do know of at least one who inspired this character.

Normally, Mormons travel in pairs when doing outreach. In issue 139, their discussion was in public, so there was no problem. But I imagine Owen would have had someone with him if he was meeting with the opposite sex in a closed door situation. Unfortunately, in a comic, space for word balloons must take precedence, and there simply wasn’t enough room in the comic for another character.
